Wandering through life, seeing the time go by without a sense of direction can be very stressful! Some of us take longer to find our calling than others. In fact, it has been found that people who start out on one career path in their twenties frequently end up switches careers around forty, after “finding” themselves. Want to find what your true calling may be? Try these five easy steps below!

1. Make a list of your interests

This is definitely the easiest step. Grab paper and pen or open the note app on your phone and get to writing. You may be thinking that the interests you have couldn’t possibly lead to a career but, my sweet friend, you’d be wrong. Hobbies such as knitting can even be turned into a career. Knitting shops have been popping up all over the world. No matter what your interests are, write them down.

2. Make a list of activities that make you feel good

When you stop and think about it, you have a lot of different activities you participate in on a weekly basis. Now think about whether these are actually feel good activities. For example, meeting with a group of friends for coffee that frequently turns into a nasty gossip session might seem harmless but in the long run it actually drains you emotionally. Maybe yoga is one of your favorite feel good activities. How about looking into being a yoga instructor? Look for the activities in your life that feel good and focus on how those can translate into a career.

3. Ask others what they think you’d be good at

Through the years, I have had many “careers” and which ranges from waitress to health care worker to writer. Certain jobs, such as waitressing, brought down my mood significantly. People would tell me, “You are too nice to be treated so poorly by these customers. You should do something where your positive attitude will be appreciated.” Those people led me to healthcare where I cared for people for sixteen years and loved it. I don’t think I ever would have seen the connection if it hadn’t been for one kind customer.

4. Meditate and pray

Meditating on what you are seeking can help focus your subconscious mind and therefore help your conscious mind find your strengths. Praying and asking the universe or God for guidance will help you too. When symbols and connections to one of your interests start appearing in your life, you will find your way.

5. Seek professional help

A certified life coach can really help you get on your path to your bright new future. I know that I can go to the grocery store and be looking for bread. I can stand in the bread aisle and stare right at a loaf and not see it. Sometimes we need to reach out to someone else and ask for the help we need. While it may seem like finding your career path would be something you can do internally, having some guidance can help you get to where you want to be faster and more easily than doing it on your own.

Follow these five steps and you’ll be able to see where you should be and what you should be doing. Give it a try. We would love to help you get on your path. Schedule your appointment with Hazel today to get on your path to success!
